Testing Autonomous Drones šŸ¤–

In my role at JPL, I was the mechanical specialist for the LORNA Martian drone scouting mission, which is a RD&E program developing a long-range, autonomous drone for Martian surface scouting. As the only mechanical engineer on the team I stepped into a new leadership position and spearheaded the drone’s design. My role entailed rapid prototyping designs and soliciting feedback from other team members regarding their technical needs/constraints. Further, I was responsible for designing the on-board sensor suite which leveraged sensor fusion to improve the autonomous capabilities of the drone. These research experiences have not only taught me important technical skills, but also how to collaborate with researchers/engineers on interdisciplinary teams.
