At JPL my research focused upon the properties of lunar regolith (a.k.a soil). While working within the Applied Low Temperature Physics Group I was interested in uncovering how the properties of lunar soil could help uncover the sability of the moon’s polar ice sheets, the moon’s internal heating mechanisms, and requriements for future human habitation. During my research, I was responsible for the modeling and simulation of cryogenic devices to measure the thermal conductivity of lunar regolith.
In my role, I was responsible for conducting FEA simulations to evaluate the performance of the cyrogenic instruments. My models primarily consisted of thermal analsyses using ANSYS and SolidWorks simulation tools. At the end of the project I presented my research to Caltech faculty and JPL research scientists at the Caltech research sympossium.
